Virginia Tech offers graduate studies leading to the M.A. in Economics and the M.S. in Agricultural and Applied Economics. The economics Ph.D. program is administered jointly by the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics and the Department of Economics.
The department offers the Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees. As an agricultural and resource economics majors, students will take classes in business management, environmental and resource policy, international agriculture, farm production, food production, government and politics, and economic theory and method.

The department offers B.S degrees in Agribusiness and Agricultural Economics through the College of Agriculture, and a B.S. in Economics through the College of Business. The Agribusiness degree has two areas of emphasis: Food Marketing and Food Production. An MBA in Agribusiness is also offered.
Agricultural economists receive training in economic theory, quantitative methods including statistics, and in areas of application such as marketing, finance, public policy, natural resources, and international development. In addition, agricultural economists are expected to have some knowledge of the agricultural sciences, computer applications, and other subjects related to applied decision-making.
