Another important goal is to bring together exceptionally talented pupils from various countries and to have them share scientific and cultural experiences.

The construction and testing of model bridges promotes the study and application of fundamental principles of physics and also helps high school students develop "hands on" skills through bridge construction. By participating in the Bridge Building Competition students get a flavor of what it is to be an Engineer, designing structures to a set of specifications and then seeing them perform their function.

The International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) is an international physics competition for secondary school students. The first such competition was organised by Prof. Czeslaw Scislowski in Warsaw (Poland) in 1967. Since that time the International Physics Olympiads have been organised, with few exceptions, in a different country every year.

This is an annual international competition in research projects in physics. All the secondary (high) school students regardless of the country, type of the school, sex, nationality etc. are eligible for the competition. The only conditions are that the school cannot be considered as a university college and the age of the participants should not exceed 20 years on March 31.

The 2001 Calgary Youth Science Fair will be held from April 4-7 at the Big Four building at Stampede Park. The fair is open to students in grades 5 through 12. There is a cap of 2 students per classroom from grades 5 and 6, but registration is unlimited for grades 7-12.
