Gravity Probe B is the relativity gyroscope experiment being developed by NASA and Stanford University to test two extraordinary, unverified predictions of Albert Einstein's general theory of relativity. The experiment will check, very precisely, tiny changes in the direction of spin of four gyroscopes contained in an Earth satellite orbiting at 400-mile altitude directly over the poles.
NOVA presents a profile of Albert Einstein, with additional teaching resources, Shockwave demonstrations, and animations of relativity concepts.

General relativity Mathematical Physics index History Topics Index General relativity is a theory of gravitation and to understand the background to the theory we have to look at how theories of gravitation developed. Aristotle's notion of the motion of bodies impeded understanding of gravitation for a long time. He believed that force could only be applied by contact, force at a distance being ...

Interactive Experiments in Gravity This directory contains documents and interactive Java applets which explore aspects of both Newton's theory of universal gravitation and Einstein's general relativity. The first two installments in the series are now available. Bending Spacetime in the Basement We live our entire lives within the Earth's gravitational field, yet rarely if ever do we experience ...

The time delay of radar reflections off of Mercury installation 1995 For Folks It takes a few minutes for light to get to Mercury from Earth, but it takes a little longer due to the Sun. Radar signals from the Haystack Observatory in Westford Massachusetts were sent out into space to bounce off Mercury. The time the radar signals spent flying between the two planets was carefully measured.
