With more than 200, 000 students in nearly 300 degree programs on its 21 campuses, and more than 150, 000 students in adult and continuing education programs, CUNY offers a broad array of educational opportunities to diverse populations throughout New York City's five boroughs. It awards academic degrees from the associate through the doctorate level, and administers certificate programs.

The primary responsibility of The Graduate School and University Center is to offer the doctoral programs of The City University of New York. The Graduate School is in essence a consortium, combining resources from colleges throughout the City University to provide quality doctoral and research programs. In addition, The Graduate School and University Center offers a select number of master's programs and administers the university-wide CUNY B.A./B.S. program.

One of ten senior colleges of The City University of New York (CUNY), Baruch College offers undergraduate and graduate programs of study through its three schools: the Zicklin School of Business, the Mildred and George Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Public Affairs.

Founded in 1964, John Jay College of Criminal Justice of The City University of New York, is a liberal arts college which emphasizes as its special mission criminal justice, fire science, and other public service related fields. As such, it is the only one of its kind in the nation.

SUNY State College of Optometry is an institution devoted to teaching, research and clinical care. It offers the following degrees: O.D. (Doctor of Optometry), M.S. (Master of Vision Science), and Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy in Vision Science). We also offer a combined degree program for the O.D./M.S. or O.D./ Ph.D., and an M.P.H. through an affiliation with SUNY Albany.

The City University of New York Medical School has a special mission: to encourage enrollment by minority groups underrepresented in medicine, and to educate a high proportion of primary care physicians who will seek practice opportunities in medically underserved communities, particularly in New York City.
