Myxedema coma is a rare, life-threatening condition in the progression of hypothyroidism. It is seen more often in elderly women and is often precipitated by infection, medication, environmental exposure and other metabolic related stresses. The diagnosis is based on clinical judgment and confirmed by laboratory testing.
