Our school originally started as an art school under the name of Kyoto Gagakkou in the Meiji era. It was in April, 1949 that our school was inaugurated as Kyoto Municipal Hiyoshigaoka High School in accordance with educational reforms after the war. The tradition of an art school had been passed on in the Fine Arts and Crafts Course until the course was integrated into Kyoto Municipal Doda Fine Arts and Crafts High School, which was founded in 1980.
