In Portland, Oregon streetcars were once the most important part of the transportation system. But these vehicles havent run on Portland streets since the 1950s. Today, the City of Portland is bringing the streetcars back. In May 1999, contractors began laying tracks for the first new streetcar line to connect Northwest 23rd between Northrup and Lovejoy to Portland State University (PSU).
