Founded in 1956, USF opened its doors in 1960 to 2000 students. Today the university serves more than 34, 000 students with nearly 200 programs at the undergraduate, master's, specialty and doctoral levels, including the M.D. Entering freshmen boast an average SAT score approaching 1, 020 and a grade point average of approximately 3.25. More than 100 USF students are National Merit or National Achievement Scholars.
