New Mexico's Week for the Animals. Governor Gary Johnson has proclaimed the week of September 29 to October 5 as the 2002 New Mexico s Week for the Animals. There are only two states in the nation that dedicates a week to animal welfare. Utah led the way and New Mexico is the second state to take up the challenge. The Petco Connection Every first and third Saturday of the month between noon and 3 p.m., volunteers have been showing off some of the Sanctuary's most adoptable dogs and cats at Petco, 2004 Cerrillos Rd., Santa Fe.
